Hubballi: Bendigere Police Open Fire as Criminal Attempts to Escape After Assault
Hubballi: The Bendigere police opened fire at a criminal who attempted to escape after allegedly assaulting officers near Tarihal. The accused, identified as Vinod, was arrested by the Bendigere Police Station on Sunday.
Vinod is linked to three robbery cases in the Bendigere and Kasabapet areas, with a total of 17 cases registered against him across various police stations within the commissionerate. On Monday, he was leading the investigating team to the location of other suspects near the Tarihal Bridge when the incident occurred.
During the investigation, Vinod reportedly assaulted a staff member, prompting Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Jayashree Chalavadi to fire a warning shot into the air to regain control of the situation. In the ensuing chaos, two officers— police constable Ramesh Hittalamani and PSI Chalavadi—sustained injuries.
All injured personnel were promptly transported to KMC-RI Hospital for medical attention, with reports indicating they would arrive in approximately ten minutes. The investigation was led by Police Inspector S. R. Nayak from Bendigere PS.
